The focus of this group is to teach the students how to use letters in words and associate letters with their form characteristics, sounds, or uses. Often the students use the letters that are taught that week in meaningful context, i.e., structured reading or writing tasks. Usually the teacher leads this group. Often the activities are games such as matching letters, finding letters and words on the word wall, or identifying patterns of letters. These activities use repetition, active memory, and association skills to promote learning handwriting/writing skills.
The activity description sheets are printable PDF files that provide you with a list of the materials needed, a description of the prep work and the task, as well as the student goals for each activity.
