The focus of this group is to teach the students how to use letters in words and associate letters with their form characteristics, sounds, or uses. The studentsĀ use the letters that are taught that week in meaningful context through structured reading or writing tasks. Usually the teacher leads this group. Often the activities are games such as matching letters, finding letters and words on the word wall, or identifying patterns of letters. These activities use repetition, active memory, and association skills to promote learning handwriting and writing skills.
